1. Product Properties:

Glycerol is a colorless, transparent, odorless, viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopic properties. It is miscible with water and alcohols, amines, and phenols in any ratio, and its aqueous solution is neutral. It is soluble in 11 parts of ethyl acetate and about 500 parts of ether. It is insoluble in benzene, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether, oils, and long-chain fatty alcohols. Glycerol is flammable and can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to strong oxidizing agents such as chromic oxide and potassium chlorate. It is also an excellent solvent for many inorganic salts and gases. Glycerol is non-corrosive to metals and can be oxidized to acrolein when used as a solvent.

2. Product Uses:

Glycerol is used as a stationary phase in gas chromatography (maximum operating temperature 75°C, solvent is methanol) to separate and analyze low-boiling oxygen-containing compounds, amines, and nitrogen or oxygen heterocyclic compounds. It can completely separate 3-methylpyridine (boiling point 144.14°C) and 4-methylpyridine (boiling point 145.36°C). It is suitable for the analysis of aqueous solutions, solvents, gas meters, and hydraulic shock absorbers, softeners, nutrients for antibiotic fermentation, desiccants, lubricants, pharmaceutical industry, cosmetic formulations, organic synthesis, and plasticizers. Glycerol can be dissolved in water in any proportion, and low-concentration glycerol solutions can be used as lubricants to moisturize the skin (as in glycerin suppositories).
